The Official Handbook of Approved Inactivity
A complete record of the company’s approved activities — pursuits that produce, use, and change nothing. Offered in the spirit in which it was written: reluctantly, and at no real cost. You are under no obligation to read it. You are, in fact, encouraged not to.

Activity 01
Sitting
Sitting is the discipline the chair was invented to permit.
Anyone can stand; standing implies imminent departure. Sitting is the harder art — to remain, deliberately, exactly where you already are. The accomplished sitter is eventually mistaken for furniture, which is the highest compliment a room can pay a person.
Activity 02
Lounging
The horizontal is the most defensible posture available to a person.
To lounge is to commit, fully and without apology, to gravity. The body is supported; the agenda is not. Reclining cannot be done wrong, cannot be done faster, and cannot be scaled. It is, by any honest accounting, finished the moment it begins.
Activity 03
Basking
Basking is photosynthesis for those who have made peace with their output.
The basker converts sunlight into nothing in particular and feels, correctly, that this is sufficient. No product results. No skill improves. You are simply warm, and present, and gloriously unproductive — a houseplant that has stopped pretending to grow.
Activity 04
Napping
A nap is a brief, fully sanctioned absence.
Sleep is the only obligation the body will happily meet on your behalf. A nap requires no preparation, leaves no deliverable, and removes you from circulation without paperwork. You return having missed everything — which is to say, having lost nothing.
Activity 05
Puttering
Puttering is the look of purpose, with none of the liability.
The putterer moves about, adjusts a thing, sets it back, and moves on — achieving the full appearance of industry while leaving the world precisely as it was found. Should anyone ask what you accomplished, the honest and complete answer is “about.”
Activity 06
Appreciating
Appreciation adds value to a thing and asks for none in return.
To appreciate is to stand before an object and improve it by sheer regard. No purchase changes hands; no use is extracted. The thing simply becomes worth more for having been noticed and, crucially, left alone. Collections appreciate fastest when no one touches them. So do afternoons.
Activity 07
Collecting
Collecting is the highest form of doing nothing.
Coins, pours, bars, oddities, grails — items formally excused from utility — accrue value through pure presence. They cannot be deployed, scaled, or made to perform. They can, however, be cataloged, valued, and looked at.
Annex A
Sanctioned fixation
Exactly one fixation has been reviewed and, regrettably, permitted.
The company endorses nothing. It has filed a single, documented exception — and only because objecting would itself require effort. What follows is the one thing here you are permitted to look at.
